Sir, I have a few questions about Acacia.
First of all, what is your motive? I mean you're admitting relatively weaker students to Acacia, who were 'unlucky' in their O levels. And you're planning to shove 11 hours of studies per subjects per week down their throats. Moreover, you don't offer much ECA's (in your reply please include more or less most of the ECA's you DO offer)
I mean, you seem like a respectable man. I believe you got your education from abroad?
Don't you think universities abroad look at your resume, and take note of the extra curricular's one has, and notonly their grades?
I mean, even if someone in Acacia succeeds and get's 4A*'s, do you really think any of the top universities will accept him?
Or have you already made the assumption that the kid won't get in those universities, so why bother?
Another thing I cannot digest is that you do not offer sciences in your school?
Is that just a rumour or do you?
If it's not, then sir, seriously, I want to know your thoughts.
Is it because you think a person with B's and C's in his O levels cannot handle science?
and that science is a more 'difficult' as compared to sociology, eco, psychology etc?
Assuming that the students won't be able to handle sciences is just downright unfair.
And lastly, charging 25,000 a month? Really sir?
I mean you don't even have sciences, which usually cost the most, and your charges are Rs 25,000?
Please, don't add sciences to your curriculum, I can't imagine how much money you'll be squeezing out from the students' pockets.
I have so much more going on in my head. I can't wrap my head around the fact that how unfair you are being to the students. I hope you have something planned ahead.
Because...frankly, the only logical explanation I can think of is that you want to raise money. I'm sorry to make that assumption about the Dean of Nixor College, but I am a mere student.
You have every right to correct me.
Please excuse me for any disrespectful things I might have said, but I guess you should know how a teenager vents.
Regards
Ali Umer
(THIS EMAIL WAS SENT TO THE HEAD FUCKING SHARK A.K.A THE DEAN OF NIXOR COLLEGE)
PS: Acacia offers science. I found out minutes after I sent the mail.
Fees: Rs. 60,000 a month.
GA Ghani
Hero.
ReplyDeleteOkay so they do offer science apperently.
ReplyDeleteAnd, surprise surprise, Rs. 60,000 a month :D :D :D :D :D :D
I seriously don't get the point of this institution.
ReplyDeleteMost of us are doing our O/A levels for the sake of improving our chances of going abroad for higher eduction among other things. Good universities rarely just look at external exam results. Does a C grader really stand a chance then? I don't think so. So why would he or she dole out such an exorbitant amount to study in a system that is not even given preference in Pakistan? Acacia is exploiting the rich, naive idiots of our society.
Ali, youre the man.
ReplyDeleteso lets examine a few things guys
ReplyDeleteAug-Sept-Oct-Nov-Dec-Jan-Feb-March-Aril-May-June-July
If im not mistaken the amount kids are charged by schools is a full year, so thats around 7.2 laks a year, plus admission fee which is usually non refundable, so lets take a ball park figure of Rs. 800,000 a year.
If i'm not mistaken, lyceum used to charge 13000 a month, so thats Rs.156,000 a year, add the admission fee and its around 250,000 a year.
I'm currently in a USA university, and their giving me major trouble over my transfer credits, basically my entire A level year may have been a total waste... so the question is, is 8 laks really worth a "possible" shot at making a degree shorter?

Ali Umer. You THE man!
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA! awesome Ali!
ReplyDeleteHaha Ali, cha gaya hai.
ReplyDeleteWaisay, you should know. Universities don't give that much importance to extra-curriculars. I know this guy who was involved in a total of zero activities but grades got him into every uni he applied to. Also, he can charge Rs 25k as long as the kids are willing to pay. Which brings me to the fact that you should have addressed this mail to the students at Accacia or Acacia or whatever the fuck it is. I'd rather write these two lines than go up and check the spelling. Ask those kids ke are they fucking insane? This is all meant for them. Ghani knows what he's doing, but I doubt the kids have pretty much been scammed. Fuck him like that, let the kids know. yknow.
yaar kia baat kerdi
ReplyDeletethis cousin of mine, st. pats boy with 7As or something got rejected from oxford, cambridge, amherst, brown, (chutiya tha basically)
he had like 12 A's in O levels
but almost nil extracurriculars..
even agha khan rejected him...
smart guy
just had an empty resume..
tumharay dost nay thori low ranked unis mai apply kera hoga
that's exactly my point
So if you got to Acacia, the chances of you going to an ivy league (hotay hain ambitious log) are zero?
If you go to Acacia, your dad has too much money, not enough brains, and no concern for your future since you'll be working in his place in any case. There, I just gave you the target market for this godforsaken place :D
ReplyDeleteoh and Ali, SAX letter.
ReplyDeleteali
ReplyDeletei worship you
Has he replied?
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see what he has to say.
I feel sorry for you mr.ali umer. seriously. i mean one you don't even have the littlest idea of why a school like acacia was created. Try thinking more broadly mate. Try thinking out of the box.
ReplyDeleteLets take a common example. Where does a student end up when he has B's and C's.. a school like Southshore(no offense) but like cmon we all know how southshore is. Its a school that does not focus on academics as much as it should provided the average grade level of a student in that school.
YES there are students who are just unlucky, but there are MORE who just didn't take it seriously. And it hits them when they graduate and look at there result sheet and wish they had done better and gone to a school like Lyceum for example. Now one thing is for sure the SYSTEM never tackles every situation of every individual. it tackles the majorities problem. and the majority is that they were not serious or they took it lightly.
Now lets look at ACACIA. the concept behind acacia was not to make those students look bad or make them feel bad about themselves but to accept that yes they couldn't do it or they were "unlucky" in your case and they need to fix it. they still have a chance to come out on the top with there peers. Yes they'll have to work EXTRA hard cuz now there's no second chance after this (11 hours) and their primary focus should be on Academics and less on ECA. ALSO the policy if you don't know is that a certain percentage from acacia that proved that they can do better and they've learned there lesson will be sent to NIXOR after the first year of A levels. and will continue in Nixor after that graduating from Nixor. A university does not look at grades only but grades do play a huge role. And a university also looks at other things which vary from student to student but in this case I think the university would look at the overall picture.
He messed up in olevels, he boosted his grades in Acacia, transferred to Nixor, maintained his grades (and now that he's comfortable to the a level standard) and became active in ECA all year round. Now if you look at the whole picture, that's a student who proved he has grown.
And what about the rest of the percentage that remained in ACACIA, well I guess they didn't pull it off or again they were "unlucky". But graduating from a school like Acacia is not something bad. People graduate from many small schools or tier 2 and 3 schools and still make a good career. But at least he/she gave it all.
Take Drug Rehab, people who go there are not people who now can never have a good life or the rehab wasn't built to insult them publicly or something, but its to HELP THEM. many Big famous celebs go , are they not famous, are they not well settled.
Now coming to the last part of your blog, the Financial Aspect. Well 25000rs. Its alot of money. but look at it this way. You join any school in karachi for a levels. avg 15000rs. monthly. now if u join that school and work super hard and take tuitions all day , which again would come out to be something like "11 hours" and paying and avg fee of 4000rs per tuition for an A LEVEL class , and avg 4 subjects, that's an additional 16000rs a month. Now look 15000 of your school plus 16000 of tuitions. Total=31000rs. Not to mention the travel costs is separate. now does Acacia seem cheaper.
Accusing somebody like that is very disrespectful and making assumptions such as you did without getting to know the whole picture shows your level mentality. I hope I answered most of your questions.
Alumni Shark!=)
Oh so cute. They can go in nixor and take part in all the ECA's they want. And they will live happily ever after...NOT
ReplyDeleteSo being a graduate of A levels
tell me
what was your resume like?
Do you think a university would pay any attention to an ECA you have been part of for just a few months? (applications are sent to universities before the end of the school year)
You think being part of the debate society, community service or anything for under a year matters?
Universities look at your resume
not for quantity of things you've done
but the quality
The resume reflects how focused you have been on things other than academics.
So, even if a student of Acacia is happily accepted in Nixor in a2
I don't think it makes an iota of a difference to the good universities abroad
Yes, if he or she gets an interview with the university, a more original insight will be available for the university to jugde.
But the resume my dear Alumni Shark will do no good =)
-_-
and it's really smart how you've avoided the sciences issue so well
time for your budget skills
how do you level out a science student's bill of Rs. 60,000?
PS:
Clearly you have no idea of how many students who 'end up' in southshore (which btw has an amazing staff of teachers) have now been accepted in reputable institutions abroad?
You are now in university and still stereotype people. I feel sorry for YOU. This shows the level of YOUR mentality..'MATE'

ReplyDelete^If I were you I'd check this out dude.
can u provide me with the link of this school's website plz
ReplyDeletesouthshore is a better school than nixor....taking nixor into our concern it focuses more on extra curricular activities...it acts like a university plus...there is a huge population in a class so how can a student concentrate...while looking at southshore....it has 25 to 30 students in a class..!!!...and is not much focused on extra curricular....my brother has been from southshore...and he secured 4 A* and is now in london school of economics.....where it is hard to get admission for a candidate whose feild is economics...!!!! nixor has thrown alot of money on tutors like naushad , nadeem, noman, zareen....etc....all they give tutions and tution is not allowed....huh....a joke..!!!!! rishwat dethe hain bharwe.!!!!...and i am a private candidate.!!!!
